LOTUS: Photography by Richard Seah @ richardseah.com

In search of lotus
I cleared my store, walked the park
found precious treasures

A friend had wanted a lotus for her website and business card, and i remembered I had this picture, somewhere.

I spent hours clearing out my storeroom and found a print of this along with many other old slides, including some that have been long forgotten. Plus old articles that I had written, lots of memories, and even beautiful hand-painted t-shirts. What a treasure I have in there.

Initially, I was not happy with the print of this lotus, so I went to the Botanic Gardens hoping to take another picture, but could not find any lotus there.

A few days later, I noticed a large lotus pond at a park not far from my house. Never noticed it before. I just went there this morning (Sunday 5 Sep 04) and spent a roll of film. I will go back for more. So look out for more lotus pictures.

Meanwhile, I got the print scanned and realised it is, after all, quite beautiful.

The beauty is right before me. I had seen it when I took this picture in Bali some years ago.

Why didn't I see it the other day? Is it so that I would explore the parks and the ponds?

Burmese women colour their faces pretty with Thanaka Bark.

This mildy fragrant bark, actually the entire stem of a plant, is ground into a powder. mixed with water and applied onto the face, usually in two circles on the cheeks.

Thanaka protects the skin against the sun and improves the complexion.

Incidentally, I did not once see a Brmese girl with pimples.
